A-Rod, Pettitte and Company Roll Over Twins

I can get used to this.

Andy Pettitte won his 150th game as a New York Yankee and Alex Rodriguez belted his sixth homer in seven games to help lead the Yanks over the Minnesota Twins, 10-1.  Johnny Damon also continued to swing a hot bat and his three-run homer in the fifth was the knockout punch.

The Good:

Andy Pettitte.  Pettitte looked sharp as he tossed six innings of shutout ball.  His greatest test came in the fourth when he allowed two straight singles to open the inning.  But a tailor-made double play and a fly ball ended any hope for the Twins.  His final line: 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 K, 1 BB on 96 pitches.  Welcome back Andy.

A-Rod.  Rodriguez really has his mojo working.  His two-run blast in the first gave the Yanks a lead they never relinquished.  Whatever it is that's got him swinging like Babe Ruth (his "come clean" about Jeter, opt-out year coming up, finding Jesus) I hope it continues through the season.

Melky Cabrera.  I've been a little down on Melky (just a little), but he broke out of his early season malaise and had his best game of the year (3-4, 1 R, 1 RBI).  His RBI single in the second kept the pressure on the Twins and he made a nice catch in left to end the eighth.

The Bad:

Scott Proctor.  Proctor gave up the only run of the game for the Yanks and didn't look sharp.  In fairness, he did get squeezed on a few pitches and he gave up a broken bat single to Jason Kubel for the run.  Still, he was pulled after only two-thirds of ineffective relief.

The Ugly:

The Metrodome.  Even with the synthetic turf it's still one of the most unattractive ballparks in the league.  It almost looks like a poorly constructed pinball machine from 1976.  The Twins new home should be ready by 2010, but it won't have a retractable roof which makes no sense.  They should have modeled it after Safeco Field in Seattle, but what do I know?

Funny moment:

John Sterling referred to Twins starting pitcher as "Beef" Bonser instead of "Boof" Bonser at one point.  I still don't know which name is funnier.  Ah, who am I kidding -- it's beef.

The Yankees will pull out the brooms and go for the sweep on Wednesday night as Mike Mussina will go against Ramon Ortiz.

Let's see if A-Rod can keep his mojo rising.
